Description The electroreduction of CO2 (CO2RR) is the conversion of CO2 to renewable fuels and feedstocks, a promising technology that could support the energy transition from fossil to renewable sources in the chemical industry. The CO2RR catalyzed by bimetallic materials are very encouraging. Particularly, Cu-based bimetallic materials have good potential to produce all targeted products efficiently and are promising to meet the required criteria (good selectivity, high activity and stability simultaneously), since the electronic and geometric structures, thermodynamically stability of the materials can be tuned by the secondary metal [https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apcatb.2018.05.056; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apcatb.2022.121089]. A rational design of the atomic arrangement of the bimetallic catalysts, and a deep understanding of the nature of the active sites and the reaction mechanism can enable the further enhancement of the catalytic performance of the materials. This project will focus on the design and development of Cu-Zn bimetallic materials for the CO2RR, including: 1) rationally design the catalysts with atomic precision; 2) synthesize the materials through a combined hydrothermal and pyrolysis method; 3) characterize the morphology and chemical composition of the materials through XRD, EDX, FESEM, XPS, and so on; 4) test the catalysts in a flow reactor.
