keywords EMBEDDED SYSTEMS, FIRMWARE, IOT, USER INTERFACE

Reference persons CLAUDIO SANSOE', PAOLO MARIA TRONVILLE

Thesis type DESIGN AND ENGINEERING

Description Air filter testing ensures air quality in closed and critical environments. The primary objective of this thesis is to create a reliable and efficient control module that automates the air filter testing procedures conducted by DENERG (Dipartimento di Energia, Politecnico di Torino). The module will enhance the accuracy and repeatability of the tests while providing remote control capabilities for improved convenience and flexibility. DENERG developed a prototype of the system with a basic set of functions and this will be used as the starting point of the new design.
The core of the system is a PCB control board based on a microcontroller (Arduino in the existing prototype). The new version will add automation features to streamline the filter testing process and enable remote control of the equipment. This thesis aims to design, develop, and test the new control module, ensuring that it meets the project's specifications.
The student undertaking this project will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing the new PCB module and verifying its compliance with the project's specifications. The student will use industry-standard PCB design tools to create a robust and compact layout for the module, selecting appropriate components and considering performance, compatibility, cost, and availability factors.
The student will then be in charge of modifying the existing firmware to implement the new functionalities as well as to write a simple PC application to create a remote user interface for the test system and acquire test data.
Exhaustive documentation related to the design and testing processes will be required.

Required skills Basic knolwedge of digital and analog electronics and PCB design (KiCad).
Basic Arduino or similar embedded systems programming
