Thesis type MODELING AND EXPERIMENTAL
Description Crystallization is a unit operation very common in chemical engineering. In this thesis crystallization is employed for the production of cathodic materials for lithium ion batteries, for the recycling of lithium ion batteries and for the recovery of critical raw materials. The thesis involves experimental work in the laboratory for the reactive crystallization of numerous materials including: nickel, manganese and cobalt hydroxides for the production on lithium ion battery cathodes and of magnesium hydroxide for salt work brines. The thesis also involves the use of a computational model, based on computational fluid dynamics and population balances, for the simulation of the process and for its optimization. Particular attention will be paid to the recycling of batteries and the recovery of critical raw materials, such as magnesium and lithium from sea water.
