Description The design of compact fusion reactors requires the development of magnets made from high temperature superconductors (HTS) that will have to work in extreme conditions in terms of applied magnetic field and radiation environment. These unusual working conditions might promote the occurrence of instabilities that could bring to the proliferation of magnetic vortices due to local and transient heating that suppress superconductivity. Such phenomena can be studied by solving the Time Dependent Ginzburg Landau (TDGL) equations. The thesis project consists in the setup of such simulations, their benchmark, and the investigation of superconductivity disruption events, due to the working conditions on the magnets.
