Thesis type SPERIMENTALE

Description Hot Electron Nanoscopy and Spectroscopy (HENs) is a current-sensing AFM technique with response on conduction at the nanometer scale. This leads to the detailed comprehension of the electronic states of nanomaterials, with a novel perspective on the investigation of nucleic acids features. Through HENs technology, structural information on DNA double helix can be revealed by measuring height, phase, Raman signal, and conductivity on the same sample. To this end, customized double-stranded DNA sequences with properly designed modifications have to be defined, obtained, purified and characterized. The competencies acquired by the applicant can include (i) basics on molecular biology (e.g., electrophoresis, PCR), (ii) SERS materials optimization, (iii) characterization by, e.g AFM, SKPM and Raman Spectroscopy.

Required skills Competences will be acquired during the thesis, in particular, basics on molecular biology techniques and optics are preferred.
