Description This thesis aims to enhance a co-simulation platform for modelling multi-energy systems by developing case study data generation capabilities. The project builds upon an existing Python-based toolbox used to define system components, retrieve operational data, and store data for
the integrated energy platform. The student will implement modelling approaches within this toolbox to programmatically design realistic representations of distribution electricity and district heating networks. Through literature review, network synthetic generation techniques like statistics and machine learning will be evaluated. Modules will be developed to automatically generate topological and technical specifications for virtual grid case studies. Integrating this network modelling functionality directly into the simulation platform will allow for more robust testing of energy scenarios through replicable case studies. It will facilitate the comparative evaluation of strategies by varying virtualized input data. The thesis aims to advance integrated modelling at urban/district scales by defining standardized input data interfaces aligned with co-simulation. The work requires Python programming skills along with a foundation in energy system modelling concepts.
