Thesis type MASTER THESIS
Description Visual navigation is one of the disruptive technology for small satellites because enable in-orbit service mission, such as mission of observation of space elements (i.e. larger spacecraft and/or space debris). The thesis objectives is to define the best strategy to do the pose estimation of a cubesat with respect to a larger cubesat for the docking phase (i.e. distance between spacecraft in the range 1-10 meters).
The main tasks of the thesis are:
- review of the state of art related to strategies and algorithms of visual navigation of space objects involved in proximity operations
- identification of best strategy for a specific case study (i.e. the cubesat SROC - Space Rider Observer Cube)
- definition of a simulation models to assess the identified strategies
- analysis and discussion of the results from different simulation sessions
•
Note:
- the thesis is carried out in the framework of the SROC project funded by the European Space Agency;
- Interested candidates are kindly invited to attach their cv when reaching out;
