Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH
Description In this thesis project, "single-atom"-type catalysts immobilized on two-dimensional materials will be developed and their catalytic properties will be studied in the electroreduction process of water to produce hydrogen.
For the synthesis of these nanostructured catalysts, "wet" chemistry methods will be used, in solution or hydro/solvothermal, trying to minimize the consumption of heavy metals and using solvents with low toxicity and environmental impact.
During the thesis work, the Student will have the opportunity to experiment with various activities, ranging from the synthesis of nanomaterials, to their characterization using electronic microscopy techniques, X-ray diffraction and Raman, UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies, to testing in electrochemical cells, verifying actual catalytic activity. For these last aspects, methods such as cyclic voltammetry and chrono-potentiometry or chrono-amperometry will be adopted.
