Description The work will focus on the study, development, and characterization of a nanostructured biomimetic surface coating through Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembly deposition technique of natural polyelectrolytes. The coating aims to mimic the composition of the aged cardiac tissue extracellular matrix (ECM) and will be composed of proteins typically abundant in the cardiac ECM. It will be applied onto synthesized polyurethane substrates used as scaffolds in the development of an in vitro tissue model to test the cardiotoxicity of industrial chemical and pharmaceutical substances.
Initially, an in-depth literature review on the subject will be necessary and will continue throughout the thesis duration. The study of the coating real-time growth will be conducted using Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation Monitoring (QCM-D). Subsequently, the coating will be characterized through measurements of wettability (contact angle), analysis of infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR ATR), observation of morphological properties, and chemical composition (SEM, AFM, XPS). The final step will involve observing the cellular response to the developed biomimetic substrate.
