Description Cancer is one of the tremendous challenges to human health globally and the leading cause of death: about 10 million people suffered from cancer in 2020 and a double increase by 2030. Although advances have been made in therapeutic methods, the reliable cure is still limited.
Bio-thermodynamics is a new model to link between entropy variation and thermal resonance in cancer with the cell physiology and cell energetics. It aims to explore the biophysical and biochemical consequence of the interaction between cancer cells, its microenvironment and an external physical stimulation, in this case ultrasound.
The Master Thesis student will work under the supervision of Prof. Lucia (modelling) and Prof. Cauda (cell experimental) to comprehend with the use of biothermodynamic model the interaction between cancer and the microenvironment and the stimulation. He/she will have also an experimental verification of the theoretical results after stimulating the cells with low intensity ultrasound. The quantitative measurements of biophysical and biochemical signals will allow to understand tumour heterogeneity, the identification of biomarkers to monitor treatment response, and a possible way of treatment.

Required skills - groundbasis of thermodynamics and physics
- knowledge of cell biology, nanoparticles, tumors cells and tumor microenvironment are a plus
