Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL, IN LAB

Description Current legislation on wastewater is becoming increasingly stringent, and scalable and economical purification processes are needed. A substance to be removed from water is the nitrate ion, especially present near agricultural companies.
This experimental thesis proposes an innovative approach based on the conversion of the nitrate ion into ammonia, a fundamental reagent in the chemical field, as well as a safe and efficient hydrogen carrier. The conversion process is powered by electricity obtained from renewable resources.
The candidate will work in the new laboratories of DISAT department at the Environment Park in Torino. The candidate will deal with the preparation of the components of the cells/reactors, their characterization, assembly of prototypes and testing under operating conditions: the advantage of this type of thesis is that the candidate has the opportunity to see an entire process of preparation of devices on laboratory scale, starting from the preparation of the individual components and assembling the cells/reactors at the end of the work.
The thesis work will be adapted according to the candidate's cultural background: chemical engineering, materials engineering, nanotechnologies. In any case, a two-week laboratory training is foreseen with the aim of putting everyone in the condition to be able to work independently on their thesis project.

Notes The "Electrochemistry" research group is a team of internationally renowned researchers in the field of materials and chemistry for energy devices and processes (see the recent successes of the group at this link: https://www.facebook.com/ElectrochemistryGroupPoliTO
The candidate will work on a work line currently active in the research teams, gaining the experience of working in the field of applied research in an academic laboratory.
