Thesis type MASTER THESIS
Description Offshore renewable energy requires a significant effort and understanding of the key systems involved in energy conversion. While the cost of energy remains prohibitive for some technologies, the current energy mix cannot be fully leveraged. With the aim of reducing the overall cost of energy, this thesis proposes the development of a Python-based digital tool to compute and assess a preliminary design of a moored energy system, encompassing both floating wind and wave energy systems. The candidate will delve into the hydrodynamics problem, defining all the significant forces acting on the device, and will focus on designing one of the most complex systems for offshore devices: the station-keeping system. The thesis will develop a simplified, low-fidelity model capable of pre-designing the mooring configuration with reduced computational time.
