Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL
Description The objective is to analyze the the durability of historical cementitious composites to develop the best conservation guidelines in case of elements of historical value. In the thesis will be also evaluated the influence of corrosion inhibitors on the performance of the cementitious composites. The object of study focuses on ferrocement, a thin cementitious composite that has been used for the construction of large shells and roofing systems. In particular by Pier Luigi Nervi.
Durability investigations on this type of material are very scant, especially regarding preservation purposes. In particular, the experimentation will be carried out on a series of samples reproduced in laboratory and tested with different treatment solutions for protecting the material from corrosion to understand and evaluate their effectiveness.
The thesis includes experimental activities in the department laboratory.
Opportunities for in-depth study of various topics such as: degradation assessment (learning non-destructive and destructive testing); 1:1 scale specimen testing and related modeling; monitoring; electrochemical restoration techniques; image-based analysis techniques for automatic degradation classification.
