Description Renewable energy communities (RECs) are emerging as a viable paradigm to support the spread and development of renewable-energy infrastructure in local contexts. These energy systems involve multiple producers, prosumers, and consumers, who are economically incentivized to share locally produced renewable energy through the public distribution grid. In the next future, rapid growth in such initiatives can be foreseen, thanks to the gradual definition of robust regulations and incentive schemes from the institutions, thus making them attractive to consumers and investors.
In this context, instruments to assess, design, and optimize these systems are becoming an increasing necessity both for researchers and subjects interested in creating, joining, or investing in RECs.
Therefore, the goal of this thesis work is to contribute to the improvement of an open-source optimization tool for RECs and, in general, for complex multi-energy and multi-node systems. The candidate will work closely with the research group and will be able to take advantage of the knowledge established over time in the context of optimization of RECs and energy systems, leveraging and integrating tools previously implemented internally (some of which are already available on the group's GitHub page https://github.com/cadema-PoliTO).
Good knowledge of the Python programming language (optionally, the Julia language may be considered), version control systems (e.g., Git and GitHub), library and package development, and software project development in general is required.
Required skills python programming language
