Description The separation of biological entities from biological fluids is a mandatory prerequisite for many biochemical and diagnostic processes. The most common magnetic materials/systems used in biological separations consist of nanoparticles with an iron oxide core covered by a porous silica shell. the fabrication techniques for these materials are laborious, multi-step and often require expensive reagents. In the following thesis project, alternative materials using zeolitic matrices are investigated and prepared. The student will deal with the preparation of magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in zeolite matrices using ion exchange and impregnation methods. The tests on zeolites are part of a collaboration with the School of Medicine - University of Turin) Department of Public Health and Paediatric Sciences.
