Seismic vulnerability for historical masonry buildings based on earthquake observed damage: a territorial scale analysis
Reference persons ERICA LENTICCHIA
Description The thesis proposes to create a database of an castles and fortresses struck by past Italian earthquakes, resulting of an extensive literature review on post-earthquake reconnaissance reports and scientific publications. The observed damage will be analysed to give an insight into the seismic behaviour and vulnerability of this peculiar building typology.
To this end, a macro-scale approach is adopted, distinct damage mechanisms will be identified and evaluated, and a damage index for each one will be computed. This will enables to develop the damage probability matrices, providing the frequency of damage occurrence. Moreover, vulnerability and fragility curves will be derived to help the prediction of future possible damage scenarios.
This comparison will allow to build a rapid procedures to be available in the field of seismic risk assessment for the specific case of historic masonry buildings.
