In many mathematical models, certain quantities of interest naturally belong to differentiable varieties.
This mathematical structure of the problem has often been ignored in the past, leading to very inefficient numerical algorithms.
In constrast, the development of numerical methods that exploit these geometric properties has achieved considerable success in recent years.
This thesis aims to study some of these algorithms, in the context of optimization, reduced order models (so called Dynamical Low Rank method), or interpolating processes, with relevant applications.
