Descrizione With 70% of energy-related emissions produced in cities, urban areas have the potential and the responsibility to effectively reduce their energy consumption and related emissions. Studies show that cities should ai at reducing energy-related emissions by at least two-thirds. With this aim, Public Administrations need tools supporting the transition towards the decarbonization of the building stock. Urban Building Energy Models (UBEMs) are effective tools in the quantification of energy consumptions – and deriving emissions – through the analysis of building and surrounding characteristics. In the current debate, the role of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) has gained interest because of their twofold effect: they directly contribute to thermal insulation while reducing the Urban Heat Island and the deriving need for cooling.
The goal of this thesis is to quantify the benefits deriving from NbS in reducing energy consumptions in urban environments, quantifying their benefits in terms of reduction of carbon emissions. Moreover, the thesis will also aim to compare the effects of the implementation of NbS as standalone measures and the effects of combining NbS with other technologies– such as photovoltaic panels. Alternative energy simulations will be carried out, assessing the outcomes quantitatively.
