Hydrodynamic modles for granular matter

Description The thesis aims at testing hydrodynamic models to describe the dynamics of granu,lar matter. Towards this end, experiments will be carried out in the laboratory and involving 100 spheres moving in an idealized 1-D system (a hollow pipe) while being forced harmonically by a piston. One or more cameras will be emploiyed to track the spheres and test the aforementioned models. This project is in collaboratorion with CNR-Istituto di sistemi complessi in Rome.
