Thesis type NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL
Description This thesis aims to analyse measurements carried out on rockfall protection embankments made of reinforced earth and subjected to the impact of blocks with high kinetic energy. Several sensors are installed inside the earth structures with the specific purpose of identifying how the shock wave generated by a block impacting the upstream face of the embankment propagates inside the embankment. The impact tests will be carried out on real-sized embankments from November 2024. The candidate will have to simulate the impact phenomenon with finite element software and compare the data measured in the field with those obtained from the numerical model. The aim of the analysis is to obtain a numerical model that simulates the real behaviour of the artefact in the best possible way.
Required skills Basics on finite element modelling
