NUMERICAL MODELLING OF HALF JOINT BEAMS SUBJECT TO CORROSION

keywords HALF JOINT BEAMS, CORROSION, REINFORCED CONCRETE

Reference persons FABIO DI TRAPANI

Thesis type NUMERICAL AND THEORETICAL

Description This thesis investigates the numerical modeling of half-joint beams subjected to corrosion, a common deterioration issue in reinforced concrete structures. Half-joint beams, characterized by their complex geometry and load transfer mechanisms, are highly vulnerable to corrosion, particularly at the interface between the beam and the support. The study focuses on developing finite element models to simulate the effects of corrosion on the structural performance of these beams, including reductions in load-bearing capacity and changes in failure modes. The numerical results are validated against experimental data, and the outcomes provide insights into the influence of corrosion on the long-term durability of half-joint beams

Required skills FEM modelling elements, knowledge of reinfoced concrete structures behaviour.
