Description This thesis originates in the Laboratory of Rehab Technologies - INAIL - IIT (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/rehab-technologies-inail-iit-lab).
The metabolic information is gaining prominence in the field of rehabilitation; such information is able to promote new strategies and approaches for clinical evaluation and further prosthetic designs. The actual gold standard is based on expensive and cumbersome devices, even though hi-resolution solution are now available on the market through the means of fitness tracking device.
Main aims and principal activities
The main objective of this thesis is to correlate the metabolic expenditure of a patient with the K5 Cosmed system and a commercial fitness tracker in order to promote a clinical-grade acquisition and analysis based on more accessible devices. The state of the art already have showed a link between the hear rate measurements and the exchange of gases such as O2 and CO2. Further practical implementation of such correlation will open to the possibility of integrating metabolic data into prosthetic usages to create new control strategies.
Learning objectives
1. Mixed software skills (Matlab, Python, C, C++);
2. Metabolic data acquisition and analysis
3. Gait biomechanics understanding
Required skills Basic knowledge of programming, sensors, elements of robotics. Knowledge of biomechanics of human movement is welcome.
