Description Nanocellulose-based hydrogels are gaining increasing attention due to their outstanding properties. Nanocellulose, derived mainly from renewable resources such as wood and agricultural residues, possesses high biocompatibility, biodegradability and excellent mechanical properties, making it an ideal candidate for biomedical applications. Nanocellulose-based hydrogels offer significant advantages, such as a porous structure that promotes nutrient and gas transport, high water absorption capacity, and the ability to load therapeutic or antimicrobial agents. These features make them particularly promising for numerous applications, including controlled drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and water purification.
This thesis work concerns the study of thermoresponsive gels based on cellulose nanocrystals and involves: 1) the preparation of different gels consisting of appropriately functionalized nanocrystalline cellulose by modifying various parameters such as composition, crosslinking agent and crosslinking conditions; 2) the characterization of the gels, especially in terms of adsorption/desorption properties and mechanical properties.
