Descrizione Inter-vehicular networks allow both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications. Infrastructures may be located along a road to provide road safety or entertainment services. The goal is to develop efficient solution to let the different network entities interact. On the one hand, we need to support the transfer of warning/alarm messages (e.g., for collision avoidance) and safety signals such as video images and radar; these messages have high priority and require a fast, high reliable transfer. On the other hand, it is important to provide also entertainment services or content retrieval services that require higher bit rates but that typically may tolerate larger delivery delays and packet loss probability. The coexistence of services with such different characteristics, jointly with the highly-dynamic network topology and the limited bandwidth resources calls for new network solutions, which include unicast, broadcast and multicast routing schemes, strategies for radio resources allocation, flow admission control, algorithms for caching and dissemination of information contents within the vehicular network.

In this context, the research work will focus on the following issues:
* Definition of routing schemes for efficient propagation of broadcast messages for road safety as well as for unicast transmissions between vehicles.
* Development of a novel MAC layer for vehicular communication nodes to avoid collisions and car accidents.
* Study of techniques for dissemination and caching of popular, multimedia contents in a urban network scenario.

Conoscenze richieste  Some knowledge of wireless networks and good/advanced skills in C programming. For analytical studies, some knowledge of probability theory is required.
