Description Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems offer a stunning potential in terms of capacity increase and improvements in communication reliability. Because of that, they are becoming an ever-present technique in modern communication standards and a mandatory element of the communication engineers' knowledge.
However, there are several issues with MIMO systems that are still far to be solved, in the design of good encoding schemes together with efficient receivers, especially for challenging channels, such as the Rice and Rayleigh block-fading.
In this framework, the candidate student will be asked to study new encoding and decoding schemes for MIMO channels. After a preliminary theoretical study, the schemes will have to be implemented and tested in order to assess their performance, compared to the theoretical limits and to the alternative solutions existing in the literature.
