Interpretation of laser scanning data in architecture. Problems of element selection and point cloud optimization

keywords LIDAR, SURVEYING, 3D MODELLING

Reference persons MAURO DE BERNARDI, MARCO ROGGERO

Thesis type SPECIALISTICA ARCHITETTURA

Description The old adage "draw what you know" becomes actual when working with the most modern tool available today to measure details, ie the laser scanner. The absolute neutrality of the instrument, partially hidden by the likelihood of the product, highlights the need for proper interpretation of the data to arrive at the appropriate scale and particularly to the graphical representation of the surveyed architectural model.
From the technical point of view the problems that arise are related to the three-dimensional modeling of the object, starting from the point cloud and then get to the final plans and sections, which, although similar to the classic survey elaborate must retain the character of three-dimensionality.
