Description The aim of this thesis is to exploit broadcast and broadband complementarity involving TV and second screen terminals (smartphones, tablets,..) at home. The use-case under analysis refers to the scenario in which broadcast channel (MPEG-2 TS) available on TV is used for linear events while broadband channel (HTTP) on second screen is devoted to on-demand, interactive and personalised services or as delivery capacity extension.
Therefore synchronization between service components delivered through heterogeneous networks becomes fundamental.
The student shall focus on this issue. After revising the current state of the art on this topic, a solution to sync broadcast and broadband components, delivered via MPEG-2 TS and HTTP streams respectively, will be designed and implemented, and its performance will be evaluated.
Required skills Good programming skills and knowledge of network protocols
