Description Design and validate through a user study a visual modeller and simulator for Intelligent Domotic Environments
Intelligent Domotic Environments are a promising approach to achieve intelligence comparable to Smart Homes, at a fraction of the cost, by reusing and exploiting available technology and by providing solutions that may be deployed even today. The intelligence core of such systems is composed of one (or more) ontologies modeling devices, environments and contexts, and of a suitable set of inference solutions allowing to exploit knowledge encoded in both models and house state.
The purpose of this thesis is to design, develop and validate a IDE visual modeller for DOG controlled environments. The modeler shall offer basic CAD modeling features and shall provide proper device libraries for modeling the IDE components. Every library component is composed by at least 3 complementary information: a visual representative, which is manipulated in the modeller, a DogOnt semantic description and a State Chart model. IDE modeling is accomplished by dragging and dropping library elements into the working space and by connecting devices through interaction links. The designed environment must be organized with an extensible plug-in architecture allowing to integrate new functionalities, e.g., inference or simulation. The outcome of the thesis will be validated by means of a suitable user study and, if satisfying, will be made available as an Open Source project.
