Modeling and characterization of energy efficient lights and devices

keywords CIRCUIT EQUIVALENTS, MATLAB, MEASUREMENTS, SPICE SIMULATION

Reference persons FLAVIO CANAVERO, IGOR SIMONE STIEVANO

Research Groups EMC Group (Electromagnetic Compatibility)

Thesis type APPLIED RESEARCH

Description The proposed activity addresses the generation of models of typical energy efficient electrical and electronic devices. Typical examples are the energy-efficient lights. they are typical and well-known examples of nonlinear loads that are now massively used in any house or office building and that are contributing to the degradation of the power quality due to highly distorted current absorptions. The activity will involve one or more then one of the following items: (i) data processing and/or measurements carried out on example test loads (e.g., CFL lights bulbs); (ii) SPICE simulation of circuit equivalents; (iii) model improvements or alternative modeling approaches; (iv) algorithms for the estimation of model parameters from measured or simulated data and (v) validation of the proposed models by comparing their responses to the ones obtained from SPICE equivalents and/or measurements.

Required skills Matlab programming; SPICE simulation.
