Description Motivations:
Nowadays Flash Memories are pervasively used in many classes of computing systems. They are increasingly used in groups as Solid State Drives (SSD), replacing previous magnetic Hard Disk Drives (HDD). Performance of Flash Memories strongly influences that of the system. Assessing the performances is crucial to optimally design the system. Simulation of the system is the least expensive approach. However, a light model of the whole system is needed, but model of SSDs are currently missing.
Goals:
The goal of the thesis is to design a SystemC model of PCI Express host interface for SSD drive. First, if needed, PCI Express protocol will have to be acquired. Then, synthesizable and parametric SystemC description of the controller will have to be produced.
Learning outcomes:
The candidate will acquire a basic knowledge of system level design methodology, skills on the system RTL description and particular knowledge of the SSD subsystem.
