Description WSN (Wireless Sensor Networks) used for ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) applications such as monitoring and control of road infrastructures, traffic management, transport telematics and signaling systems, represent a very interesting topic for the research community.
SISTRA SRL, a small company located in Aosta developed RedWine, a linear topology Wireless Sensor Network (L-WSN), in cooperation with Politecnico di Torino - Telecommunication Networks Group. RedWine makes available many highly innovative application scenarios: a large number of sensors placed at short distances from each other (typically 50-100 m) allows the accurate localization of road traffic events in terms of time and space.
In this framework, several final project subjects are available, ranging from the evolution of the existing RedWine communication protocol, to traffic event recognition and validation, to new sensor design and testing.
