Descrizione When storing energy, no energy storage device can provide ideal cycle efficiency,
cost per unit capacity, energy density, power capacity, and cycle life. This is similar to what happens in the memory hierarchy of a computing system, for which no single type of memory device can achieve short access time, high density, balanced read/write performance, low cost per bit, low power consumption, and non-volatility. In both contexts, this implies using a mix of different types of elements with different technologyies which can provide the best of all metrics, hence a "hybrid" system.

This thesis aims at developing a simulation environment for hybrid energy storage systems (EES) using the Matlab/Simulink environment, which includes all the basic elements of an EES, i.e., power source devices (e.g.,
energy scavengers or photovoltaic cells), power converters (AC/DC, DC/DC), energy storage devices (batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, etc), controllers, and various models of the load.
