Descrizione Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a powerful network paradigm that permits to build highly adaptable and easily manageable networks. The main idea of SDN is to separate the control and data planes in the network: the control plane runs only in a centralized controller leaving the switching devices with only the functionality of forwarding packets. Due to its increasing adoption, SDN is becoming the enabling technology for traffic engineering in operational networks.

The thesis will explore different hardware architectures to design energy-efficient SDN switches, implement one state-of-art architecture and assess its performance.

Note Required C and C++ programming skiils. VHDL is a plus but not required.
