Description Assessing the software energy footprint is an interesting challenge for ICT researchers. Our previous works showed that the impact of software over system power consumption may reach up to 10% of the whole in desktop systems. For these reasons, it is important to identify the figures and metrics that determine the software energy footprint. The aim of this work is the development of a software energy profiling tool, that basing upon resource usage data, is able to estimate in real-time the impact of software over power consumption. No external power meters should be used, if not for an initial calibration phase.
Another task is to compare the consumption of different algorithms to perform similar jobs (ex image transformation)
Required skills Software design and development. Basic hardware design
