Description According to NIST cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
Cloud Computing is is considered by many as one of the pillars of the Future Internet, as it will be the major backbone for future computing in terms of resource provisioning and communication. But with the increasing volumes of data, required mobility and velocity, heterogeneity and adaptability that will affect the future ICT infrastructures, the control of computing resources, particularly for the network, will become increasingly complex. In order to respond to this emerging challenges complete new hardware and software approaches are required. For these reasons highly relevant research and development topics are arising in networking field such as Network Function Virtualization, Cloud-RAN, Software Defined Networks, Network as a Service, and other.
Required skills Knowledge of networking principles.
Good knowledge of Linux server.
Good programming skills (Java, C++, possibly python).
Knowledge of cloud computing is an advantage.
Notes This thesis will be in conjunction with Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (www.ismb.it) and part of the activities might be held at ISMB site.
