Descrizione High-resolution, cost-effective, fully integrated digital-to-analog (D/A) converters are needed to interface digital and analog elements in present-day mostly digital System-on-Chips (SoCs) in nanoscale CMOS technologies.

Unfortunately, conventional digital pulse width modulation (DPWM) techniques, which provide a simple and cheap solution to perform D/A conversion, are not well suited to a fully integrated implementation, mainly because of the requirements of the output filter, which are particularly stringent if a high resolution is targeted. Moreover, other traditional D/A conversion techniques, can be rather complex and expensive or otherwise not well suited to nanoscale CMOS technologies.

In this scenario, the thesis is aimed to design, simulate, synthesize and test an FPGA-based prototype of a novel low-cost, high resolution, all-digital D/A converter, based on an alternative technique under development, conceived for a cost-effective, fully integrated implementation of the D/A conversion function in present day SoCs.
