Description The thesis aims to give an overview of the current traditional design practices and criticalities related to the design of composite aircraft structures and evaluate the beneficial effect on the weight of removal some conservatisms of the current design criteria when considering the beneficial effect of integrated Structural Healt Monitoring systems into the panel design.
Required skills Basics in aerospace engineering; fundamentals of mechanics of composite materials, structural analysis with the finite element method, MATLAB and PATRAN/NASTRAN (this last is not an essential prerequisite; the gap could be filled during the thesis work).
