Description The research focuses on techniques to make the networks energy efficient with the twofold objective to make them sustainable and to reduce operational costs.
The investigated scenario considers the case of base stations of cellular access networks that are powered with renewable energy sources consisting in solar panels and batteries.
The thesis consists in developing a Markov chain for dimensioning the size of the panels and the number of batteries with the objective of minimizing the cost of the system.
Both analytical and simulation approaches are followed to find the proper powering system dimensioning that reduces the cost of deploying and running the networks.
