Description The aim of this thesis is to perform a comparison of the most significant features of the two approaches - head mounted displays and immersive environments - concerning, in particular, usability and effectiveness, applied to real use cases in industrial scenarios (simulation of production lines, simulations of vehicle interiors, etc.). The activities will include interaction with a development as well as a service team of a company operating in virtual manufacturing and will be carried out in part at the premises of the company (most likely in Bologna and Stuttgart). The ultimate goal is to identify the practical limits of the use of consumer devices for virtual reality in an industrial context (performance, ergonomics, robustness, etc.) as well as to determine how they can represent a valid alternative to currently used immersive environments.
