Description Photonic integrated technologies currently enable high data-rate point-to-point transmissions and compact optical switching devices.These technologies are gaining interest in datacenter networks, where traffic patterns are very dependent of the applications, and in metro/core networks, where optical switching architectures need to support arbitrary-bandwidth connections.
This thesis, after a review of the state of the art in photonic integrated technologies considering a system-level perspective, will focus on proposing architectures for optical switching systems and evaluate their performance.
