Description A new colour representation was introduced in the HEVC specifications (from ITU-R BT.[HDR]): ICtCp (Constant Intensity). It's an alternative to the commonly used NCL YCbCr (non-constant luminance (NCL) ) representation for the encoding of colour signals. It claims to resolve several issues that have been observed in NCL YCbCr:
- Chroma leakage (especially for 4:2:0 applications)
- Reduced banding/Improved codeword representation
- Hue Linearity
- Better performance for larger colour volumes
After revising the current state of the art on this topic, the student will focus on the implementation of a colour volume transform for the presentation of HDR/WCG (High Dynamic Range/WideColourGamut) on a display having a smaller color volume than that of the mastering display used for mastering the source.
