Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL
Description The thesis consists in the experimental study of unconventional superconductors, either recently discovered or featuring peculiar properties that make them useful to understand the mechanisms responsible of superconductivity and the interplay between superconductivity, possible magnetic ordering, lattice structure, electronic bandstructure, shape of the Fermi surface etc. The experimental techniques include electrical transport measurements (e.g. resistivity, Hall effect), morphological/structural characterization, possibly compositional analyses by means of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and especially point-contact or tunnel spectroscopy. The latter allow a direct measurement of the amplitude and symmetry of the superconducting energy gap, which is a fundamental piece of information to understand the nature of the superconducting coupling.
