ELASTIC and ELASTO-PLASTIC MODEL of FRUITS

Description In Standard related to the mechanical characterization of fruits, it is assumed that during the compression test stresses and strains in fruit follow the Hertzian contact laws. Due to the stiffness variability of different fruits, these laws introduce however limits of validity that are not clearly defined in Standard.
Aim of the thesis is to verify, both analytically and numerically, the validity of such relationships starting from available experimental data of different fruits, by means of data analysis and finite element simulations.
It is also planned an experimental part to measure the elastic modulus of different fruits.
