Description Ferritic stainless steels (FSSs) are the most promising materials for application as interconnects in solid oxide cells technology. Their successful use is limited by oxide growth and Cr poisoning of the electrodes. The formation of an oxide scale, which grows during the operation contributes to increase of the area specific resistance (ASR) and formation of the volatile Cr species (on the high pO2 side) leading to the oxygen electrode poisoning. To this purpose, Mn-Co spinels have been suggested as the best candidates as protective materials. They possess high electrical conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) compatibility with metallic interconnect substrates.
