Description Fracture mechanics of several mechanical components like shafts, gears and splined shafts in operation nowadays requires a deeper investigation to allow a precise prediction of crack propagation being currently analyzed through the Finite Element Method by means of some innovative procedures. Those are the topic of this thesis and if stage proposed at the EPF School in Sceaux, Paris, France (see call for students under Erasmus programmes)
