Description Study of material properties effects on bladed discs response of gas turbine.
Manufacturing tolerances play a fundamental role during the design phase of a gas turbine component. In particular, the dimensional tolerances and material properties variations can change or modify the response of bladed disc in terms of eigenfrequencies and mode shapes. These issues must be known by the designer and must be taken into account during the definition of the dimensional tolerances and minimum material characteristics in the detailed phase of the project.
The candidate shall investigate the effects of different dimensional tolerances and material properties on bladed discs
response by means of FEA and in-house tools in order to support the supply chain during the definition of the acceptability criteria for turbine blades. The comparison between numerical and experimental results could be required.
This thesis aims to study the effect of dimensional tolerances on bladed discs response of gas turbine, in terms of eigenfrequencies and mode shapes. A Finite Element analysis with in-house tools will be performed and results compared with experimental data of turbine blades.
Required skills MS engineering students (energy, aerospace, mechanical or equivalent).
Knowledge in mechanical integrity issues.
Bonus: Finite Element Analysis and vibration mechanics.
Notes Duration: 8 months
