Descrizione SOEC (solid oxide electrolysis cells) can operate in a reverse principle as a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC),which involves the combination of hydrogen and oxygen to generate electrical energy. SOEC systems mostly operate in the temperature range of 700-850°C, therefore the degradation
of cell components can be a limiting factor for their performance. In this context, a major challenge faced in SOC technology is the synthesis of reliable sealants.
Sealants must provide mechanical bonding of components (ceramics and metals), be gastight and must be electrical insulators. Glass-based seals, thanks to versatility of their compositions are likely to be the materials of choice. This experimental work will focus on dual atmosphere tests @ 850°C as well as on the mechanical characterization of metal/glass/metal joined samples by torsion tests
