Description Dispersion processes through porous media play a fundamental role in engineering. Just think of the phenomena of aquifer contamination, the possibility of site reclamation or, for instance, the transport of nutrients in hyporheic flows. However, in spite of many efforts of the scientific community, phenomenon of dispersion of a solute through an aquifer still has unclear aspects, especially in the presence of soil heterogeneity. The proposed thesis is aimed to study dispersion phenomena in an innovative way, adopting the mutual information tool to isolate and understand the role of the non-linearity of the relationships between the trajectories followed by the solute and the flow field in the porous medium. This in the presence of more or less marked heterogeneity of the medium itself.
