Description Networked music performance (NMP) enables remote musicians to perform together by means of low-latency audio/video streaming over a telecommunication network.
The objective of this thesis is to design an assessment framework to evaluate the performance and usability of various NMP solutions. The performance evaluation is carried out in terms of resources used, network bandwidth, audio quality (audio codec + packet loss concealment), mouth-to-ear latency and so on. The usability of the various tools instead will be carried out using a series of usability metrics. The project activities include initial research on the state-of-the-art tools which can be used for the various metric evaluations, followed by the development of a framework which can be used to quantitatively assess the performance of different NMP tools, which can be either web-application or native tools. In the last part of the thesis, the developed framework will be then used to evaluate the performance of various NMP tools.
