Description Concepts such as Demand Response, Energy Aggregation, Demand Side Management are becoming popular and realistic in a Smart-cities and Smart grid scenario. In order to develop and test algorithms for such purposes there is the need of analyzing users activity and consumption profiles. Unfortunately such data is not ready available by now. Hence the need of generating synthetic data for testing and developing such algorithm is crucial.
The thesis will focus on the development of a library for simulating human activities performed during the day. This research will start from the analysis of Time Use surveys which are statistical information on user behaviours provided by ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics). Then the candidate will test different techniques, such as Markov Chains, to simulate the human behaviors with a good approximation. Finally this library will be integrated in an existing simulator to evaluate the impact on human actions in strategies for both thermal and electrical demand (i.e. demand side management and demand response).
Required skills Good programing skills in python, Basics Markov process theory
